How do I know what version of the Navigation system I have? I have a '03 GX470 with DVD Navigation that has never been updated but I'd like to update it at least a couple versions! Any help?

Welcome to the LOC, SD!

The 2003 GX470 is a Gen 2/3 system. Excuse my rustiness here, it has been a while since I had my Gen 3 to look at: I believe you check your disc version by going Menu --> System options --> disc version?

If you have not updated before, it is probably a 3.1 or thereabouts.

The 8.1 update was released last Nov/Dec and is available from online discount Lexus dealers like Sewell.

Check the links there on how to change the disc yourself to save you some money.

As a bonus, I believe that you maintain your ability to override your Nav lockout even under the latest update!

I have a 05 GX470 and i purchased a new Gen 4 v7.1 disc, unfortunately I lost the override feature. Is there anyway to do it with this disc? from my understanding once you change the disc to the updated one you can't switch back due to the firmwere update. I would rather have the override feature than the updated roads.

I'm in Canada and have an 06 GX470.. how do i update the Nav unit i have? also, how do i determine what Gen the unit i have is?

I went to the dealer to see about an updated Nav DVD and they told me they would have to "special order" it and couldn't even guarantee it would work on the version/Gen i have.....

If anyone has a newer disc they KNOW will work with my system and was willing to share it, that would be great....

Each annual release of the navigation dvd has updated map data. Newer versions would definitely show the missing streets in your neighborhood, especially if you are updating from a 2004 version. Sent you an email.

New forum member here. Just got back from a 6-hour roadtrip in the wife's 2003 GX470 and can't stand the out of date software any more. I'm so glad I found this forum and thread.

As I said, it's an '03 and has never been updated from factory so I guess I have Gen 2/3?

Would anyone be willing to share how to upgrade the nav software and what version is appropriate for my truck? I see that version 8.1 is out. Not sure that works with my system, but I have to do something.
